This type of mental activity is a complex and multi-level phenomenon that requires detailed research, since the foundations of its origin and development are an important aspect of understanding the nature of human abilities and creativity. Musical thinking is a special category of artistic thinking whose laws extend to various activities in all types of art. Based on the research and analysis of the literature on the subject, we have come to the conclusion that the disclosure of the specifics of this mental activity is multilevel and multidimensional. There are two main areas of study of musical thinking – as a form of thinking and as a feature of musical art. Musical thinking is associated with a philosophical vision of the essence of thinking and language-based development. The constituent categories of musical thinking are artistic thinking, whose laws are uniform in art. Images of various kinds of human activity, which have become the result of artistic and imaginative thinking, are the basis of the world of musical images.
