«СAPRICCIO ARABE» BY FRANCISCO TARREGA: INTERPRETOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to investigate the interpretative features of the performance of the work «Capricho Árabe» by Francisco Tárrega in the context of the interaction of the triad «composer – performer – listener», to analyze the aesthetic and stylistic transformations of the work in the modern performing space, taking into account organological factors and the performing thinking of outstanding guitarists of the 21st century. The methodology consists of historical, genre-stylistic, organological, interpretological, and musictheoretical research methods. The scientific novelty of the article is that, for the first time in domestic musicology, “Capricho Árabe” has been investigated through the prism of modern interpretology, taking into account organological influence, performance strategies, historical contexts and modern performance practice. Conclusions. The interpretation of “Capricho Árabe” performed by D. Russell, M. Dilla and A. Vidovich reveals the diversity of modern performance approaches to one of the outstanding works of the guitar repertoire. The application of the interpretative model “composer – performer – listener” allows us to trace how the artistic content of the work changes in new aesthetic and acoustic conditions. D. Russell represents an academic, filigree detailed style with timbre sensitivity and structural logic. The performer demonstrates a high degree of stroke and agogic detailing, timbre flexibility, which ensures the expressiveness of each phrase. M. Dilla presents the work through the prism of romantic expression, dynamism and virtuosity. Such a presentation shifts the emphasis from intimate lyricism to scale and expressiveness, which demonstrates the synthesis of academic and concert styles in the context of the receptive expectations of the modern audience. A. Vidovich demonstrates analytical precision, a clear sense of form and emotional intensity, although sometimes chamber intimacy is lost. Her interpretation is distinguished by the accuracy of articulation, a carefully constructed dynamic line and strong control of timbre. At the same time, some uniformity of color and a powerful sound attack create the impression of integrity, but distance it from the historical type of intimate sound. All three versions testify to the active role of the instrument as a carrier of artistic meaning, where the organological characteristics of the guitar significantly affect the interpretation. The modern performance practice of “Capricho Árabe” is a synthesis of traditions and individual artistic vision, which forms a new level of communication between the author, performer and listener.
