ON THE QUESTION OF TRANSLATION OF PIANO WORKS FOR FOUR-STRING DOMRA AND PIANO: INVENTORY AND INSTRUMENTAL-SOUND FEATURES
Abstract
Aim of the work. The article analyzes the specific properties of domra techniques and their instrumental and figurative personifications in the translation of Debussy’s piano music for four-string domra and piano. The research methodology includes the application of comparative, aestheticcultural, historical, musicological methods, which form a single methodological basis. The performance approach is important. The scientific novelty of the article arises in identifying the specifics of performing techniques of sound production and sound science on domra with the aim of inventing new facets of impressionistic timbre phonism in preserving the key parameters of Debussy’s composer style. The emphasis is made on preserving the sound integrity with the importance of individualizing the microdynamic and articulatory domra playing techniques. The domra-piano combination in the texture of the piece was coordinated, as well as the possibility of updating the impressionistic timbre structure in the domra-piano arrangement due to the immanent variability of the plucked sound. Conclusions. As a result of the analysis of the domra sonority of “Moonlight” by K. Debussy, a special complexity of articulatory-dashed, thinning technique of sound production was revealed, which makes it possible to enhance the changing grace of a barely noticeable sound “sneaking”, movement “on tiptoe” – as touching the intimate sides of being. Of particular importance are the performance techniques of domra microdynamics, which gives the phonemes of the Debussy texture additional properties of color variability. Such a gently fading, “dry” plucked sonority is organically “inlaid” into the piano texture (which requires from the pianist more “dryness” in the ensemble combination), forming a common textural and sound integrity. Domra translation allows us to “find new realities” (C. Debussy) of his musical sound space in an effort to reflect in the sounds an infinitely changing image of nature and the subtlest shades of human emotions.
