MUSIC AND PEDAGOGICAL ACTIVITY BY I. KLIMOVA AS THE COMPONENT OF FORMATION OF THE CULTURAL SPACE OF CHERNIHIV REGION

Abstract

Research objective is to study the artistic activity of the pianist, teacher, the founder of the Piano Department of L. Revutsky Music College Irina Petrovna Klimova (1927–2007), finding out her contribution to the formation of the cultural space of Chernihiv region. Author explores I. Klimova’s life in the context of her cultural and educational activities in the region as a pianistperformer and piano teacher. The methodology of the article is based on historical-chronological, source, logical-generalizing methods for studying the period creative biography of I. Klimova and memoirs of her contemporaries, identification of factors influencing her performing and musical-pedagogical activities on the development of the cultural space of Chernihiv region. The scientific novelty of the publication lies in the first in Ukrainian musicology study of the life of one of the prominent figures of the artistic space of Chernihiv region, the founder of the musical traditions of the region in the second half of the 20th century I. Klimova as a complex phenomenon that developed in the socio-cultural context of the time. Conclusions. The results of the study suggest that I. Klimova for half a century played an important role in the development of the cultural space of Chernihiv region. Through her performing activities, she formed the socio-cultural basis for the revival and development of the academic music space of Chernihiv region in the postwar period, which led to its priority influence on the development of regional centers of piano performance and pedagogy in primary music education institutions. The concert activities of I. Klimova and her students in the settlements of the region performed not only an educational function, but also indirectly influenced the development of the region’s economy. The popularization of piano art increased the population’s demand for instruments, which contributed to the growth of piano production by the Chernihiv Musical Instrument Factory. The organic synthesis of performing, pedagogical and musical-organizational activity allowed I. Klimova to lay the foundation for the development of children’s and youth piano performance, to make a significant contribution to the development of musical traditions of Chernihiv region, to promote the cultural space of the region in the second half of the 20th century.
